When you see the pros on television you see that they sometimes have their hands on the top of their wheel and at other times on the drops. With a climb with many corners you should ‘accelerate’ in the corner, get out of the saddle, stand on the pedals, give your speed a boost, and then sit down and find your rhythm again. You do this with every corner. If a climb doesn’t have many corners you go now and then out of your saddle to speed it up a bit, sit down and find the right rhythm again. How long you stand on the pedals depends on the person, some pros stand a lot whilst others remain seated.
